Royal Caribbean International has announced that the 154,407-ton, 3,634-guest Independence of the Seas which currently sails in the Mediterranean will be refurbished in April 2018.
During the refurbishment Independence of the Seas will gain numerous new-fangled features including:
- a trampoline park
- water slides
- escape rooms
- laser tag
The news was revealed on the Crown & Anchor Society Facebook page, and the refurbishment is labelled as “bow-to-stern” with more details still to be confirmed.
Other ship in the fleet have water slides and laser tag, but on no occasion has several features been onboard a sole ship. The Harmony of the Seas visibly features just one occurrence of Escape the Rubicon, but it would seem Independence of the Seas will be receiving at least two enhancements.

Completely new to Royal Caribbean will be laser tag, and no other cruise ship presently has a jam-packed trampoline park, which are becoming progressively prevalent on land.
These new charms will join current Independence of the Seas favourites like the FlowRider surf simulator, rock climbing wall and H2O Zone water park—all of which will remain.
