Kangaroo Island to give Queen Mary 2 a warm welcome in 2017

Kangaroo Island will welcome its greatest ever guest in 2017 when Cunard’s lead liner, Queen Mary 2, arrives.

The 151,400-tonne, 2600-passenger liner will depart a trail of dollars afterward when she brings in February 2017. The visit is anticipated to produce an expected $1 million in revenue.

More than $16 million has been pumped into South Australia’s economy as an immediate consequence of cruise boats docking in the state, new figures show.

Tourism Minister Leon Bignell said the economic advantage of the industry climbed 30 per cent, up from $11.4 million a year prior. Cruise ships likewise in a roundabout way created $6.7 million for the economy.

Cunard said Queen Mary 2 would make her first visit to Kangaroo Island on February 20, 2022 as a component of a four-night, round-excursion cruise from Melbourne.

Carnival Australia CEO Ann Sherry said Queen Mary 2’s call was affirmation of South Australia’s allure as a cruise destination.

Queen Mary 2’s visit will take after Cunard’s first-ever call to the island one year from now when the 90,000-ton Queen Victoria touches base on March 4.

Queen Mary 2 will visit Adelaide on February 16, 2017, and is relied upon to pull in several visitors to the foreshores close to Outer Harbor.

The ship, made its maiden voyage in 2004, has more than 1300 staterooms, a six-story Grand Lobby, the biggest assembly hall and library adrift, the three-story 1347-seat Britannia Restaurant and the Illuminations planetarium.

SA welcomed a record 32 cruise ship visits to our ports this past season, up from 26 the earlier year. They brought 55,054 travelers and 11,765 crew members in the 2014-15 season, an ascent of 34 per cent.
